The Beauty Of Handmade Lace

Last year I visited Buckingham Old Gaol Museum with my daughter. Amongst many of the exhibits were displays of bobbin lace in progress that have been salvaged from many years ago, in particular the local Bucks Point Lace. Bobbin Lace originated in 16th century Italy and involves twisting and braiding threads which are on bobbins to manage them. The threads are woven around pins which are placed in a pillow to determine the pattern being created. This handmade craft is very rare these days as most manufacturers favour machine made lace. When you look at the skill involved in work like this it makes you really appreciate the value of lingerie brands which use handmade lace trims on their designs.
